Barry Hagan
has been a hunter safety instructor only since 2006, but in that
short period of time he's made a huge impression on young
hunters all across the state. Barry is a member of the Talladega
County team and has promoted safe, responsible hunting through
the Alabama Hunter Education Program. Over the past three years,
Barry has served as the District 2 Representative, served on the
board of directors, vice-president, and president of the Alabama
Hunter Education Association
( AHEA ), taught multiple hunter safety courses in at least six
different counties, worked countless conservation events and
served as a watchdog to ensure conservation laws are upheld.
In 2008 alone, Barry taught
18 classes and saw 432 of his students receive certification. He
also has organized the dates and times, and rounded up
instructors, for all hunter safety courses in Talladega County.
Barry also volunteers to
work conservation events all over the state, including several
youth fishing rodeos and various Boy Scouts of America events.
Barry has used his own money to build and outfit a hunter
education field day trailer to use at various events and used
his own vehicle to drive all over the state to teach courses and
volunteer at outdoor expos. And he does it while working a full
time job and often in severe pain as a result of an ATV accident
a few years ago. Yet, there is never a complain from Barry and
he never turns down an opportunity to volunteer.
Barry is committed and dedicated to
something he loves -- helping the youth of Alabama become safe.
For his outstanding
commitment to Hunter Safety Education we present the 2009 Hunter
Safety Instructor of the Year, Mr. Barry C. Hagan.
